PCHS of Guilford came to Dexter to take on the Tigers in a Class C Girls Soccer game on Monday afternoon. Just one week ago these two teams went at it and the game went to overtime with PCHS winning it 3-2. Today the game was not as close and the Tigers came out on top 5-1.
Dexter started off strong as Sarah Murray kicked a direct kick past the Pirates goalie (Julia Shaffer). Freshman Jesse Bell tied the game up for the Pirates with 19:44 remaining in the half on an assist from Samantha Brown. The rest of the first half was the Alexis Mitchell show as she scored with 14:19 remaining in the first half on a very nice pass from Raven Patterson. Mitchell scored her second goal with 3:17 remaining in the half on an unassisted goal. Mitchell did not just do it on the offensive side she also played a good game on defense as she played half the game on offense and half the game on defense and played very well in both places. To go along with Mitchell who is a Senior, Patterson and Sarah Atwater who are both Seniors played very well on the defensive end in the first half to stop any chances the Pirates had to add any more goals in the first half. Freshman Amy Jordan also was very solid on the defensive end. The First half ended with Dexter up 3-1.
3:55 into the second half Freshman Harley Ponte scored an unassisted goal to put the Tigers up 4-1. Ponte played very well the entire second half. Mitchel, Patterson, Atwater and Jordan continued the solid defense in the second half as any time the Pirates had a chance them along with Freshamn goalie Lauren Crane turned them away. Mitchell, Ponte and Kady Gould kept the pressure on the Pirate defenders on for the rest of the second half as they were near the PCHS goal quite a bit in the half. The Tigers added their 5th goal of the game with 3:34 left in the game as Atwater got a goal on an assist from Ponte.
The Tigers move to 1-5-1 as they play a very good overall game. Ponte ended the day with a goal and an assist, Mitchell got two goals, Murray and Atwater added goals. Patterson added an assist. That was just the offensive part of things for the Tigers. Jordan and Gould also played a very good game for the Tigers. Crane finished with 6 saves for Dexter. Shaffer finished with 8 saves for the Pirates who are also 1-5-1.
