It has been a long wait but Lincoln and the Dragons are ready to start the season.

Most high school baseball teams have at least two games already completed. Ryan Lincoln and the Woodland Dragons will not take the field until Monday when they play against Washington Academy who already have played 2 games and went 1-1 in those games. Woodland who is coached by Barney Perry and Stephen Lincoln will now be playing in Class C moving from Class D and the Dragons are hoping to be in the Class C playoffs. Ryan Lincoln is a sophomore for Woodland and was a DAC all-star nominee as a freshman. Lincoln will be playing first base on a regular basis for the Dragons and will also be doing some pitching. Below is what Lincoln had to say about the team, himself and other things.

Q/A with Ryan Lincoln of Woodland High School.

Q - What are your team goal's for this season?

A- "This year our main goal is to show that we can compete in class C as well as we did in class D....looking to end the regular season winning over half our games."

Q- What do you think is going to be the biggest difference being in Class C?

A- "Heal points for us wont be a factor because we play a mainly class c schedule anyways...our biggest diffrence will be the change in playoff atmosphere, switching gears from D to C in our away playoff games."

Q- What are your personal goals for this season?

A- "To step up as a sophomore and be a leader of the young team... last year i was a DAC all-star nominee i would like to become a DAC all-star this year.. keep my hitting fluent."
"hitting is my best part, extra base hits and rbi's is what im looking for."

Q- You start your season on Monday against WA who is already 1-1 on the season. Do you think it will be an advantage or disadvantage to be starting your season a week later than your first opponent?

A- "you can look at it two diffrent ways... one way is more practice time to prepare for one of the biggest games of our season... another way is wa has had the opportunity to face game situations and live game pitching an advantage for them... we have had no scrimages aswell which does hurt, but the longer practice time has helped us alot finding our strongest ties to our line-up."

Q- Your team has 7 games scheduled in the first 12 days of the season. that is something any team needs pitching depth to get through. How do you feel your team's pitching depth is going to be this season?

A- "We have two strong veteran senior pitchers in Jordon Perry and Andy Brown both two-time dac all-stars..our rotation also consists of sophomores in myself, and Andrew James and lone freshman Hunter Snowman. our first two weeks include tough opponents in WA,Machais,Calais. With the variety of pitching styles and arm strength our pitching will be strong."

Q- You pitch and also play first base, what is your favorite position to play? Is it one of those positions or somewhere else on the field?

A- "Pitching is a tough position to play mentally and physical though its still my 1st selection. First base is also a strong suit for me, with the capability to pick many tough dirt balls. A chemistry and momentum builder for me was my acceptence to Coast to Coast Baseball Academy a camp in Florida,Arizona, and Puerto Rico for the top players in the U.S.A. coached by mlb and college scouts."

Q- Is this a camp that you will be attending this summer?

A- "You can select from a various amount of dates as of right now my sights are set for the dates of Dec. 16-22 in Florida...the cost of 1300.00 and not including a 200.00 plane ticket is the hold-up. This summer i will be working towards this great accomplishment."

Q- Baseball is the sport that you seem to be getting noticed most for but you do play other sports. What other sports do you play and what sport is your favorite to play?

A- "I also play Varsity Soccer and I was invited to tqo camps this year one at Colby and the Dutch soccer camp at UMPI, i was # 2 in the state for saves last year.. Baseball is my #1 sport, my top sport at that. I know very few make careers out of it but with my accomplishments of the academy, a 2 time Maine state pitch, hit, run state champion, and many other team achieves i hope to play college ball with the luck of minors. My self quote before each game and practice is " Dream, Believe, Achieve, Succeed " R Lincoln # 24"

  1. All DAC all stars get invited to the dutch soccer camp at umpi. And the Coast to Coast camp is not a special offer. Everyone gets those!

  3. What a great article but Coast to Coast is a program that you have to tryout and submit for that is reviwed by the board of administrators. Now as for the Dutch Soccer camp, its not all dac all-stars that get invitations because if i recall he wasnt one the past 2 seasons. As for everyone being a dac nominee is not true. Each coach picks 1-5 of his best players to nominate, not all of his players. Great article hope the rest of the season goes well.
