Fairfield- The rain held off until the last out was made, but Skowhegan could not contain the Bulldogs' bats Monday afternoon at Keyes Field. Lawrence picked up their second win of the season (and second in a row) as they pounded the Indians 10-1.
Shawn Russell took the hill looking to bounce back after taking a loss in the season opener to Bangor. The lefty didn't have his best stuff but had enough to pick up his first win of the season. In five innings of work the senior gave four hits, four walks and an earned run. Russell fanned three.
Skowhegan took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. A led off double by Kam Nelson started the inning. He moved to third on a ground out and scored as Jonathan Emery who got on with a walk was caught in a rundown with trying to steal second base.
Lawrence even the score with a run in the bottom of the inning thanks to a lead off walk, a Skowhegan error, and a fielders choice.
Bulldogs bats exploded in the fourth inning. They sent ten men to the plate and put up six runs. Matt Woodbury's two run double and Jake Doolan's pinch hit triple highlighted the inning that saw Skowhegan pitchers walk three and and an error. The Bulldogs lead 7-1 at the end of four innings.
Lawrence tacked on three runs in the fifth inning when they batted around to make it 10-1.
