Vanadestine, Andrews earn athlete of the week honors

Each week during the high school sports season the Eastern Maine High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc @ easternmainesportsblog@yahoo.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Please have them in by 10 PM on Friday evening.

Spring season- Week 2- April 23rd- April 29th- 


Female
Ariel Vanadestine- (Softball)- PVHS - Softball- Had 11 hits and eight RBI in a 3-1 week for the Howlers. On Monday, Vanadestine had two hits and three RBI in a 22-18 victory over Houlton.  On Wednesday, Vanadestine had two hits and two RBI in a 10-2 victory over PCHS.  On Thursday, she had four hits and scored three runs in a 11-4 victory over Schenck. On Friday, Vanadestine had two hits and two RBI in a 11-9 loss to Bangor Christian.

Runner up- Andi Foster- (Softball)- Orono- Pitched a two hitter in a 16-3 victory over Foxcroft. Foster gave up one earned run and struck out 11. She also hit a double. Foster also pitched a four hitter in a victory over George Stevens and recorded nine strikeouts in a victory over Sumner. in the victory over Sumner, Foster had two hits and three RBI including the game winner RBI in the 7th inning.

Female nominations
Brooke LaBelle- Ashland- Had five RBI in a 10-9 victory over Fort Fairfield. LaBelle hit a three run homer and a two run single.

Ashlynn Kelly- Limestone- Had six hits and six RBI in victories over Van Buren and Southern Aroostook.

Abby Yeo - Bucksport- Threw a two hitter in a 10-0 victory over Ellsworth. Yeo struck out six and walked one.

Becky Orcutt- Nokomis- Had three doubles including two doubles in a 10-6 victory over Belfast. Orcutt had two doubles and scored three runs.

Alix Rudzinski-Central- Only gave up one run in 17 innings to lead Central to victories over Sumner, Stearns and Foxcroft.

Male
Max Andrews- (Baseball)- John Bapst- hit two home runs, scored three runs had 5 RBI and also pitched a one hitter in a 13-1 victory over Old Town.

Runner up- Tim Locke- (Baseball)- Waterville- Pitched five perfect innings in a 19-0 victory over Mt. View. Locke struck out 10.

Male Nominations
Jesse Provost - Foxcroft- Baseball- Gave up only one unearned run and one hit in a 2-1 victory over Orono. Provost also scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Josiah Hartley- Bangor- Baseball- Went 4-4 in a 13-3 victory over Hampden. Hartley hit a double, home run and had four RBI.

Sam Beaulieu- Madawaska- Hit a grand slam and a three run homer in a 10-4 victory over Central Aroostook.

Patrick Goodall- Southern Aroostook- Baseball- Pitched a four hitter in a 5-0 victory over Limestone. Goodall struck out nine and walked one.

Luke Duncklee- Cony- Pitched a two hit shutout in 5-0 victory over Erskine.

Corey Lapierre-Cony- Hit a grand slam in 5-0 victory over Erskine.

Kyle Bishop - Waterville- Struck out 13 in 10-0 victory over Oak Hill.

Logan Crane- East Grand- The freshman struck out 12 in a 12-4 victory over Washburn.

J.T. Whitten- Waterville - Went hit a double and a homer in a 19-0 victory over Mt. View. Whitten went 4-4.
