Yeo, Veilleux grab Athlete of the week honors

Each week during the high school sports season the Eastern Maine High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc @ When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Please have them in by 10 PM on Friday evening.

Spring season- Week 1- April 16th- April 23rd

Abby Yeo (softball)- Bucksport- Pitched a one hitter and struck out 17 in a 7-0 victory over MDI. Yeo did not give up a hit until two were out in the 7th inning.  Bucksport is expected to be a contender in class B and Yeo is one of the main reasons.  Yeo and the Bucks have a busy week ahead. They have games against Mattanawcook, Ellsworth and Hermon.

Runner up- Shannon Graves- Hermon- Had three hits including a grand slam in a 12-0 victory over Mattanawcook.

Female nominations
Kayla Dube- PVHS- Pitched a one hitter in a 10-1 victory over Bangor Christian

Abby Burdin- PCHS- Struck out 11 in a 11-4 victory over Foxcroft.

Cody Veilleux (Baseball)- Hermon- Pitched a no hitter in a 12-0 victory over Caribou. Veilleux only walked one and struck out 12. Veilleux and the Hawks have started the season with a 3-0 record. Hermon will take on Ellsworth and Bucksport in the next week.

Runner up- Cody Coiley- Foxcroft- Had six hits and eight RBI in wins over Searsport and PCHS. Coiley and the Ponies have outscored their opponents 42-3 in the first two games. The Ponies have games against Orono, Houlton and Central in the next week.

Male Nominations
Casey Estes- Old Town- Gave up seven hits, two walks and two runs in a 15-2 victory over Orono. Estes also had two hits and drove in two runs

Jake Jones- PVHS- Jones pitched a complete game three hitter in a 10-0 victory over Bangor Christian.

Logan Jipson- PVHS- Went 2-3 with 3 RBI. He also scored two runs and stole two bases.

Kevin Leary- Foxcroft- Hit a three run homer in a 17-3 victory over Searsport. Leary also hit a double.

Tim Locke- Waterville- Pitched six shutout innings and struck out nine in a 8-0 victory over Winslow. Locke also had three hits and two RBI,
