Lady Raiders capture first Eastern Maine Championship

The Washington Academy Raiders scored the final nine points on Tuesday night to earn a 42-39 victory over the Orono Red Riots in the Eastern Maine girls basketball championship game. It is the first girls basketball Eastern Maine Championship in school history.

The Raiders have three seniors on their roster, they all came up big when they were needed the most. Christy Smith led all scorers with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

"I can't believe it," Smith said. "This is like a dream come true."

Aroostook County All-Star Classic

Caribou High School will again be hosting the 21st Annual Aroostook County All-Star High School Basketball Classic. The games feature area Seniors in competition on the court and the proceeds benefit the Aroostook League Scholar Athletes Scholarship Program.

The event will take place on Tuesday, March 8th, 2011 - with the girls game beginning at 5:30 pm and the boys game immediately following at 7:00 pm. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students.

Come and support Aroostook County seniors in this classic event.
