Bangor, Me-- The Stearns Minutemen went on a 12-0 run early in the second quarter and cruised to a 46-24 victory over the Mattanawcook Lynx in a class C girls quarterfinal basketball game played on Tuesday afternoon.
Sigi Koizar had eight points and two assists during the Stearns second quarter fun. Koizar finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals. She shot 8-13 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line.
Alex Mooney finished with 12 points, including hitting three shots from behind the three point line. Ashley Rollins recorded eight points and eight rebounds.
Stearns outrebounded Mattanawcook 34-23 and held the Lynx to 18.1% shooting from the field. The Minuteman outscored the Lynx 37-15 after the first quarter. Stearns (17-2) will face Houlton in a semi-final game on Friday, February 24th at 7 PM.
Taylor Hawkins led the Lynx with 10 points and seven rebounds. Mattanawcook finishes the season with a 14-5 record.
