June saw the end of another high school sports season in Eastern Maine.
Bethanie Brown led the Waterville girls track team to their sixth straight state championship.
The Orono girls won the class C track state championship. The Orono boys were the top Eastern Maine team in class C.
Edward Little girls were the top Eastern Maine team in class A. Brunswick was the top Eastern Maine team in class A boys. MDI finished tied with Falmouth at top of class B ranks for track and field in the state.
Kendra Hayward led the Old Town Coyotes on a magical ride. The Coyotes defeated Nokomis 4-1 on June 14th to claim the class B Eastern Maine championship.Heyward struck out 15 to lead the Coyotes to a 4-1 victory over Fryeburg Academy on June 16th in the state title game.
The Bucksport Bucks cruised through the class C softball schedule. The Bucks outscored opponents 279-10 including defeating Dirigo 2-0 in the state championship game on June 16th.
Sonja Morse led the Cony Rams to the class A softball state title. Morse threw a one hitter in a 2-0 victory over South Portland in the state title game on June 16th.
Kayla Dube and the Penobscot Valley Howlers defeated Richmond 4-2 to claim the class D softball title. The East finished 4-0 in softball state title games.
Adam Geel pitched a three hitter to lead Calais to their third straight class C Eastern Maine baseball title. The Blue Devils defeated Dexter 4-0 on June 12th.
Foxcroft Academy used strong pitching and timely hitting to claim the class B Eastern Maine baseball title.The Ponies defeated Waterville 10-2 on June 14th to claim the title.
Messalonskee defeated Scarborough 6-3 to win the class A baseball state championship. Bangor Christian won the class D state title when they defeated Buckfield by a score of 7-3.
The American Legion season started on June 16th. Motor City and the Bangor Comrades have both got off to hot starts. Here is a look at the Zone 1 American Legion scoreboard and standings.
Jenn Plourde got more good news just ten days after coaching the Coyotes to the softball state championship. She was named the girls soccer coach at John Bapst.
On June 20th, Nat Clark was named football coach at Old Town high school. One week later, Clark had a chance of heart. On June 27th, Clark decided to not take the teaching or coaching positions at Old Town.
On June 29th, Kori Dionne resigned from her position as girls soccer and basketball coach at Nokomis high school. The announcement came three weeks after Dionne was charged with OUI.
The first Noonan-Nation basketball tournament was held the weekend June 29th-July 1st to honor Clark Noonan who passed away in a car crash.
Soccer standout Abby Pyne will be transferring from John Bapst to Loomis Chaffee (a prep school in Windsor, Conn).
