Maine sweeps Norfolk State

DJ Voisine pitched seven strong innings and Troy Black had four RBI to lead the University of Maine Black Bears baseball team to a 9-1 victory over Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon.

The Black Bears pounded out 13 hits. Tyler Patzalek had three hits, two runs scored and two RBI.  Michael Fransoso, Ian Leisenheimer, Justin Leisenheimer and Black had two hits each.

Voisine allowed one run on four hits and two walks. Luke Morrill pitched two shutout innings to finish things off for the Black Bears. Morrill allowed two hits and one walk.

The Black Bears swept the four game series at Norfolk State. Maine (11-14) will next play on Wednesday, April 4th when they host Husson University. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.

Husson and Bowdoin split

The Husson University Eagles and the Bowdoin College Polar Bears split a softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Melissa DellaTorr fired a three hitter to lead the Polar Bears to a 6-0 victory in game one. DellaTorr did not allow a walk and struck out eight.

Nine players had at least one hit for the Polar Bears in game one. Caroline Dewar and Cielle Collins had three hits each.

In game two, the Eagles scored a unearned run during the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up the 6-5 victory.

Heidi Shaw had three hits, two runs scored and one RBI for the Eagles in game two. Victoria Overlock had three RBI. Lona Sargent had two hits and two runs scored.

Kody Lyon pitched a complete game to earn the victory for the Eagles. Lyon gave up four earned runs on eight hits. She walked one and struck out five.

Husson (10-6) will host division one, University of Maine Black Bears on Tuesday, April 3rd. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM.

Bowdoin (13-8) will host Thomas in a doubleheader on Monday, April 2nd. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
