Baseball- Dexter 8 PCHS 4

Guilford, ME--- Jared MacDonald finished his regular season high school baseball career with a bang.
MacDonald had two hits including one double and two RBI to lead the Dexter Tigers to a 8-4 victory over the Piscataquis community high school (PCHS) Pirates on Wednesday afternoon.

Leadoff hitter Ryan Wilks reached base four times. He walked three times. Wilks and Daytona Gould had three stolen bases each.

Dexter, ME--- With the playoffs starting in six days, the Piscataquis community high school (PCHS) Pirates softball team needed a team bonding experience.

The Pirates got just that when they scored three unanswered runs to erase a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Dexter Tigers 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

"Heal points is not what I am worried about with this. It was the team bonding that we brought together again. We have been having trouble with that. This game brought us together," senior catcher Sarah Hoak said. "You can see the adrenaline rushing through everybody. That was the biggest thing with beating Dexter.was the adrenaline and team bond we are going to have going into the playoffs now."

Baseball- George Stevens 3 Central 2

Corinth, ME--- The George Stevens Eagles baseball team scored three runs in the fifth inning on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Will Ricker took care of the rest. He pitched six solid innings to lead the Eagles to a 3-2 victory over the Central Red Devils.

The Red Devils held a 2-0 lead when Mariner Cheney stepped to the plate with one out and one on base. Cheney nailed a 0-1 hanging curve ball over the left field fence for his first home run of the season.

"It was a hanging curveball," Cheney said. "Just got the bat around."

Ricker improved to 3-0 on the season. He allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks. He threw 69 pitches, 44 strikes and struck out four. Ricker used mostly his fastball.

"That was his third start of the season for us. He was 2-0 going into today. He goes out and competes. His curveball was not as good as it has been but he did a good job," George Stevens coach Dan Kane said. "A few points in that game he could of easily lost his composure. He hung in there and kept throwing strikes."

Ricker added, "Mostly just used my fastball. My curveball was not working that well for me today."

Baseball- Foxcroft 18 PCHS 4

Guilford, ME-- Cody Coiley had three hits for the second consecutive game to lead the Foxcroft Ponies baseball team to a 18-4 victory over the Piscataquis community high school (PCHS) Pirates on Thursday afternoon.

Casey Weeks hit a double to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead during the bottom of the second inning. The Pirates held the lead until Luke Olsen hit a double that scored Shinsuke Mikame with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. That gave the Ponies a lead they would hold the rest of the way.

Coiley added to the lead when he hit a two run double during the top of the fifth inning. That started a seven run inning for the Ponies.

Jesse Provost pitched a four hitter for the Ponies. He did not issue a walk and struck out 10. Coiley had two doubles, three RBI, four runs scored and three stolen bases.

The stolen base was again a big part of the Ponies attack. They stole 12 bases for the second straight game. For the season they are 90-104 on stolen base attempts.

Softball- Bucksport 12 Dexter 0

The Bucksport Bucks greet Bailey Blair as she arrives home after hitting a first inning home run. That helped the Bucks defeat the Dexter Tigers 12-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Dexter, ME--- Bailey Blair hit one over the fence in the first inning. That would of been enough runs for Cassidy Adams but the Bucksport Bucks did not stop there.

Blair went 4-5 with four RBI and Adams pitched a two hitter to lead the Bucks to a 12-0 victory over the Dexter Tigers in a class C softball game played on Thursday afternoon.

After Libby Kain retired the first two batters in the top of the first inning, Blair came up and drilled a 1-0 pitch over the left center field wall.

Blair had three doubles in the first meeting against the Tigers. The Bucks won that game 8-2 on May 12th. According to Bucksport coach Michael Carrier that gave Blair even more confidence coming into Thursday's game.

"When we played at Bucksport, Bailey (Blair) hit the ball so hard off that young lady," Carrier said. "She had so much confidence. We knew she was going to do a good job. She is a great hitter anyway."

Blair added, "It was a little high, in the strike zone. One that I like so I hit it."

Maine falls to Stony Brook in conference tourney opener

The University of Maine Black Bears baseball team had a very rough start to conference tourney play. They fell behind early and went on to drop a 14-6 decision to top seeded Stony Brook on Wednesday afternoon.

Travis Jankowski and Kevin Krause had four hits each for Stony Brook. Pat Caldwell and Kevin Courtney had three RBI each.

Troy Black and Michael Fransoso had two hits each for the Black Bears. The highlight of the day for Maine was when Fran Whitten hit a three run home run.

Maine (26-27) will play in a elimination game against Albany on Thursday Morning at 11 AM. Stony Brook (44-11) will take on Binghamton at 3 PM. Full America East conference tourney schedule.

Baseball- Foxcroft 10 Dexter 3

Dexter, ME--- Seeing Cody Coiley get clutch hits was a regular thing during the 2011 season for Foxcroft Ponies coach Mark Chevalier.

On Tuesday afternoon it was deja vu for Chevalier and the Ponies. Coiley ripped three hits including a triple, had six RBI and two stolen bases to lead the Ponies to a 10-3 victory over the Dexter Tigers.

Coiley accounted for the first five Ponies runs. He hit a single that gave Foxcroft a 2-0 lead during the top of the first inning. With the bases loaded in the top of the third inning, Coiley ripped a triple to left field that cleared the bases. That gave the Ponies a lead they would hold the rest of the way.

"Cody (Coiley) was smoking the ball. He had the first five RBI for the first five runs of the game, "Junior pitcher Ryan Rebar said. "It was good seeing him pounding the ball like the old Cody. Hopefully he can carry it into the playoffs."

Softball- Hermon 16 Central 2

Corinth, ME--Shaniah Haskell has been setting the tone for the Hermon Hawks offense all season. Monday afternoon was no different.

Haskell reached base four times and scored four runs to lead the Hawks to a 16-2 five inning mercy rule victory over the Central Red Devils.

Haskell had three hits including two doubles. She also had two stolen bases and one RBI. The sophomore is the leadoff hitter for coach Stephanie Biberstein.

"Our lineup has been pretty versatile this year," Biberstein said. "Shaniah has done a great job at leadoff. She does not strike out very often. She gets on quite a bit."

Ryan Lincoln- Woodland- Baseball- Fired a one hitter in 8-0 victory over PVHS. Lincoln struck out 11 and walked two. Threw a three hitter and allowed one unearned run with 10 strikeouts and one walk in 10-1 victory over Shead. Also had three hits including a home run and five RBI in the victory over Shead. Woodland has a 7-4 record and are currently seeded fifth in the MPA class D heal point standings. Lincoln is the first student/athlete from Woodland high school to earn the Eastern Maine sports blog and the Eastern Maine high school sports examiner athlete of the week.

Runner up

Tyler Eddy- Orono- Baseball- Allowed three hits and zero runs in 3-2 victory over George Stevens. He had six strikeouts. Allowed one earned run and three hits in five innings in 12-2 victory over Dexter. Eddy has four wins on the season and gave up his first earned run in the victory over Dexter. Eddy has a ERA of 0.29 for the season. Eddy captured athlete of the week honors in week 2. Eddy earned runner up in athlete of the week voting in week 3.

Third Place

Greg Duff- Bangor- Baseball- Pitched a no hitter in 3-0 victory over Hampden. Duff walked three and struck out three.

Andi Foster- Orono- Softball- Pitched a no hitter in her final high school softball game. Foster struck out 11 and walked only two in 14-2 George Stevens. The outing was the night before Foster had cancer surgery. Foster finished her career with over 400 strikeouts on the hill. The Red Riots were 9-2 this season with Foster on the hill. Foster also earned the week 2 Eastern Maine Sports Blog and Eastern Maine high school sports examiner's athlete of the week.

Runner up-

Brianna Speed- Central- Softball- Had two hits, two runs scored and one RBI in 14-2 victory over Penquis. Had two hits including a double, two runs scored and one RBI in 7-6 victory over Mattanawcook. Had four hits including a double, scored five runs and had three RBI in 17-0 victory over Bangor Christian.

Third Place

Cassidy Adams- Bucksport- Softball- Pitched a six hitter, struck out 10 and walked one in 16-3 victory over Orono. Pitched a two hitter and struck out seven in 31-0 victory over Lee. Pitched a one hitter in 27-0 victory over Sumner. She had six strikeouts and no walks. Was the winning pitcher in 18-0 victory over Searsport. Adams earned runner up in week 2 and week 3 athlete of the week voting.

Ponies sweep Vikings in baseball doubleheader

Caribou, ME--- The Foxcroft Ponies baseball team swept the Caribou Vikings in a doubleheader played on Saturday afternoon.

The Ponies scored eight runs in the third inning of game one to overcome a 3-0 deficit. Hunter Law hit a two run single that tied the score at three. Ryan Rebar hit a single to give the Ponies a lead they would hold the rest of the day. Cody Coiley hit a two run double in the big inning.

All nine hitters in the Ponies lineup had at least one hitter in the 14-7 game one victory. Matt Chapman had three hits and two RBI. Rebar, Jesse Provost and Forrest Law had two hits each. Hunter Law, Coiley and Chapman had two RBI each.

Bangor, Me--- The Bangor Christian Patriots scored nine runs in the second inning and cruised to a 13-2 five inning mercy rule victory over the Central Red Devils on Friday afternoon.

Ben Bragg pitched four no hit innings for the Patriots. He struck out five and only walked one. That walk was to the first batter of the game.

Dover-Foxcroft, ME---Junior Ryan Rebar stole the show on senior day on the campus of Foxcroft Academy. Rebar pitched a three hitter to lead the Foxcroft Ponies to a 5-0 victory over the Old Town Coyotes in a class B baseball game played on Thursday afternoon.

"Phenomenal effort. It is what we have come to expect. It was only a five run game," Foxcroft coach Mark Chevalier said. "With him (Rebar) on the mound we felt like we were in control the whole game.

"Great command of his fastball all night. He attacked hitters and our defense played great behind him. He has been terrific all year. We expect more outings like that going forward."

Foxcroft senior catcher Cody Coiley added, "I am just glad to come out with a win on my last game. Rebar pitched a gem in my last game to close it out."

Dexter, ME-- The Dexter Tigers scored three runs in the second inning. Casey Jordan took care of the rest. He allowed only three hits and one unearned run in six innings.

Jordan walked one and struck out eight to lead the Tigers to a 4-1 high school baseball victory over the Bangor Christian Patriots on Wednesday afternoon.

"I threw a lot of strikes. More than I have this year," Jordan said. "My slider for the first time all year was breaking pretty good."

Tigers junior catcher Dylan Graffam added, "Casey (Jordan) was throwing a lot of sliders. Excellent pitching from him today."

College baseball- Maine 9 Boston College 4

Michael Fransoso had three hits to lead the University of Maine Black Bears baseball team to a 9-4 victory over the Boston College Eagles in a college baseball game played at Hadlock field in Portland on Tuesday evening.

Fran Whitten and Troy Black had two hits each for the Black Bears. Alex Calbick finished with two hits and three RBI. Fransoso scored three runs. Tyler Patzalek and Scott Heath scored two runs each.

Jonathan Balentina (3-0) pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory. Maine (26-22) will end the regular season with a four game series at home against Stony Brook. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 3 PM on Friday, May 18th. A doubleheader will also be played on Saturday, May 19th starting at 1 PM.

Softball- Bangor Christian 7 PCHS 4

Guilford, Me-- Gabby Melcher had two hits including one double and one RBI to lead the Bangor Christian Patriots softball team to a 7-4 victory over the Piscataquis Community high school (PCHS) Pirates on Monday afternoon.

Kristen Roemmich earned the victory on the hill. She allowed six hits and three walks. Roemmich struck out six. The Patriots took advantage of seven PCHS errors.

Freshman Jacob Sinclair went 3-3 with four RBI to lead the Tigers to a 15-2 five inning mercy rule victory over the Lee Pandas on Wednesday afternoon.

Casey Jordan earned the victory on the mound. He allowed two runs on two hits and three walks in the complete game effort. Jordan struck out seven.

All nine hitters in the Tigers lineup scored at least one run. Leadoff hitter Ryan Wilks scored three runs. Jordan, Matt Crane, Brandon Spratt and Jared MacDonald scored two runs each.

Corinth, Me---If you like pitching duels, Central high school was the place for you on Monday afternoon. Cody Caruso was more than good enough to win on most days. He allowed only three hits and struck out 14.

On this day it was Mike Cummings pitching for the opponents. Cummings fired a no hitter and struck out 14 to lead the Bucksport Bucks to a 2-0 victory over the Central Red Devils in a class C baseball game. He threw 84 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Softball- Dexter 4 PCHS 1

Dexter, ME--- Libby Kain was throwing strikes. Her defense took care of the rest. Kain allowed only two singles to lead the Dexter Tigers softball team to a 4-1 victory over the Piscataquis community high school (PCHS) Pirates on Monday afternoon.

The Tigers defense made several key plays including two by freshman shortstop Michaela White. The best one came with the Pirates rallying in the seventh inning. Abby Burdin hit the ball up the middle. White made a play that you rarely see from a freshman.

She got to the ball, threw across her body to get Burdin at first. It was a play that prevented the tying run from coming to the plate in the final inning. It was a play that Dexter coach Dave Pepin called one of the best he has seen in a while. Pepin needed someone to step in and take over the shortstop role. Kirstie Mower was a senior shortstop on the 2011 team that won the Eastern Maine championship.

"She (White) is outstanding. I would put her up against anyone in the league. I have said that since day one when I was hitting ground balls and didn't know who was going to take the (Kirstie) Mower's girl's spot at short," Pepin said. "She (White) plays everything from the ground up. She has great hands. She has been making plays like that since exhibition games right up through. Today she made two outstanding plays. That play up the middle and throwing across her body was one of the best plays I have seen in girls softball in a while."

Cody Collins- Bangor Christian- Baseball- Had two hits and three RBI and recorded 13 strikeouts in five innings on the mound in 13-3 victory over Central.

Braddock Deabay- Baseball- Pitched a one hitter, struck out 13, had three hits and two RBI in 6-0 victory over Ellsworth.

Foster went over the 400 strikeout mark on the mound for her career in 12-0 victory over Lee. Foster continues to play with cancer surgery looming in less than two weeks. This is the first time that two student/athletes from the same school earned athlete of the week in the same week. Tyler Eddy earned the male athlete of the week.

Runner up

Cassidy Adams- Bucksport- Softball- Struck out 15 in 4-1 victory over Orono. She allowed six hits and one walk. Pitched a no hitter with 11 strikeouts in 21-0 victory over George Stevens.

Third Place

Kayla Dube- PVHS- Softball- Pitched one hitter in 20-4 victory over Lee. She walked only one and struck out 11. Pitched a two hitter in 8-0 victory over Stearns. She struck out nine. Struck out 17 in 8-0 victory over Bangor Christian.

Baseball- Hermon 7 Foxcroft 5

Dover-Foxcroft- Joey Martin ripped a two run double during a three run seventh inning to lead the Hermon Hawks to a 7-5 victory over the Foxcroft Ponies on Friday afternoon.

Kevin Frederick hit a two run double to spark a four run first inning for the Hawks. Martin and Will Perkins also had run scoring hits during the inning.

The Ponies scored one run in the first inning and three more in the third inning to even the score. Cameron Fadley had a sacrifice fly in the first and third inning's. Jesse Provost and Hunter Law also had one RBI each in the third inning.

Law scored a run during the bottom of the sixth inning to give Foxcroft a 5-4 lead. Hermon pulled out the victory with Martin getting the big hit in a three run seventh inning.

Perkins earned the victory for the Hawks. He allowed three earned runs in the complete game effort. Perkins allowed four hits and seven walks. He struck out five including three in the final two innings.Hermon (2-3) will host Central on Saturday, May 5th. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.

Kaleb Smith allowed four earned runs in a complete game effort for the Ponies. Foxcroft (4-4) will travel to Old Town for a 4:30 game against the Coyotes on Saturday, May 5th.
